Jamie Lee Curtis, who has played Laurie Strode since the original Halloween film in 1978, has been battling evil for almost five decades. Curtis’ performance as Laurie would pave the road for her to appear in subsequent horror films, garnering her the titles of “scream queen” and “final girl,” much as the Halloween movies influenced and established the genre for future horror-slasher films.
Despite her age and the fact that the Halloween flicks are action-packed, Curtis shows no signs of slowing down, with two more appearances as Laurie in Halloween Kills (due out at the end of the year) and Halloween Ends (due out next year) (pre-production). Curtis will most certainly be in her mid-sixties by the conclusion of the series. Here’s how old she was in each of the Halloween flicks when she made an appearance.
Halloween (1978) – 19 years old
Curtis made her acting debut in John Carpenter’s horror-slasher film Halloween at the age of 19 (Halloween was released in the United States on October 29th, 1978, just before her 20th birthday). Despite the fact that Curtis’ Strode would go on to become the heroine of the series that we have all grown to adore over the years, Carpenter’s initial choice for the part was not her.
Originally, Anne Lockhart was cast in the role of Laurie. Curtis was considered a potential option partly because she is the daughter of Janet Leigh (actress of Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho), who was unable to commit to the role owing to schedule problems. Curtis was the only one of her co-stars who was really a teenager, since P. J. Soles and Nancy Loomis were both 28 years old.
Curtis portrays Laurie Strode, a 17-year-old high school student in Haddonfield, Illinois, which would soon become the hunting ground for a masked serial murderer named Michael Myers.
Halloween II – 23 years old
Curtis would go on to become Hollywood’s Scream Queen after the success of the first picture, starring in horror films including The Fog, Prom Night, and Terror Train. Curtis would later reprise her role as Laurie in the sequel to Halloween. Curtis had changed her hairdo during shooting, necessitating the use of a wig that resembled Laurie’s in the first film. Curtis was 23 years old at the time of filming.
The 1981 sequel, directed by Rick Rosenthal, takes up just where Halloween (1978) left off. This time, the action takes place in and around Laurie’s hospital room. In an effort to locate and kill Laurie, Michael starts murdering the hospital personnel.
Halloween III (Witch Season) – 24 years old
The third chapter of the Halloween series tells the tale of a wicked mask business owner who plans to murder children on Halloween night by wearing Halloween masks. Tommy Lee Wallace directed the picture, which does not include Curtis or her character Laurie Strode. Curtis does, however, appear in the film for a short uncredited appearance as the curfew announcer and telephone operator.
Halloween H20: Age 40, 20 Years Later
In the seventh installment of the Halloween series, Curtis reprises her role as Laurie Strode. The events of the fourth through sixth Halloween films, all of which Curtis had not featured in, were retconned in this 1998 film directed by Steve Miner.
Twenty years after the events of Halloween II, the film follows Laurie, now 37 years old and the headmistress of a private school in California, as she struggles to forget her horrific experience in Illinois twenty years ago. Soon after, Michael Myers appears out of nowhere and makes Laurie and her pupils the focus of his vengeance.
Curtis has appeared in a number of non-horror films and television shows during her time away from the Halloween franchise, including Trading Places (1983), A Fish Called Wanda (1988), and Anything But Love (1989–1992). She was recognized for and won accolades for her acting abilities, which allowed her to shed her scream queen image.
Curtis’ portrayal as Laurie in Halloween H20 also garnered great feedback. Laurie’s transformation from devastated victim to powerful heroine was characterized by Bob Graham of the San Francisco Chronicle as “… riveting a performance as any this summer.”
Resurrection – Resurrection – Resurrection – Resurrection – Resurre
For what seemed to be the last time, Curtis returned her role as Laurie in Halloween: Resurrection in 2002. Curtis chose to step in and resume her part as Laurie Strode after learning of her demise at the conclusion of Halloween H20. This allowed Laurie’s tale to be properly concluded. Curtis said in an interview with Bloody Disgusting in 2018 that she would have to return for one more film to wrap up Laurie’s narrative, even if it was just for a little time.
Laurie’s character was killed off in the early scenes of Halloween Resurrection, thus it was just a brief appearance. The film follows a group of college students who are competing on a reality program and are forced to spend the night at Michael’s childhood house.
Halloween (2018) – 60 years old
Curtis reprises her role in 2018’s Halloween, 16 years after the last sequel. Curtis is also listed as the film’s Executive Producer. Except for the 1978 original, the 11th chapter of the series, directed by David Gordon Green, retconned every sequel film.
Laurie (now 57 years old) lives in a house fortified with guns and traps as she battles with alcoholism to cope with her post-trauma. Michael gets away from the authorities and returns to torment Laurie and her family.
The retelling of the tale, which has strong links to its 1978 origins, has garnered generally favorable reviews from both reviewers and audiences. The film was “better than virtually every previous sequel in the series,” according to Bryan Bishop of the Verge, and it was “a fitting conclusion to a tale that started 40 years ago.”
Despite the fact that Curtis was sixty years old at the time, she pulled no punches in the film and did all of her stunts herself, according to her co-star Andi Matichak in a Youtube interview. Matichak also emphasized her respect for Curtis and her dedication to executing the sequences, which involve striking and repeatedly tossing her body to the ground.
Age 61 in Halloween Kills (2021) (during production)
David Gordon Green returns as director for the sequel to Halloween (2018) and the eleventh chapter of the series, while Curtis reprises her role. The picture, which is set to be released in October 2022, starts up where Halloween (2018) left off.
Laurie Strode’s age would be the same as it was in 2018. (57 years old). Curtis would have been 61 years old during production, which started in late 2019 and ended in late 2022.
