After discovering that Atlanna was punished by Orvax for loving a human and producing a half-breed kid, Arthur rejects Atlantis and becomes a renowned warrior.
Arthur now finds himself in the middle of a pirate assault on a Russian Akula-class submarine, after the destruction of Steppenwolf. In a botched effort to murder Arthur, their commander is slain, and his son David vows vengeance.
Orm Marius, Orvax’s son (who is now the new king of Atlantis since his father left), and Arthur’s younger half-brother persuade King Nereus of Xebel to help unify Atlantis and destroy the surface world for polluting the waters. If Orm unifies all four kingdoms, he will be known as Ocean Master, the leader of the planet’s most powerful force.

What Is Aquaman 2’s Storyline?
Jason Momoa came up with a story idea for a sequel while shooting Aquaman (2018), which he presented to Warner Bros. Entertainment chairman Toby Emmerich and producer Peter Safran.
Before the film’s October 2018 release, Momoa said that he would be more engaged in the creation of a possible sequel, and that shooting would begin in 2019. Director James Wan predicted that the picture, which included seven yet-to-be-explored underwater realms, will generate a swarm of spin-off stories.

Warner Bros. hired Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald to write the script for The Trench, an Aquaman spin-off film based on one of the kingdoms introduced in the first film, in early February 2019. The film was anticipated to have a smaller budget and not include the main ensemble of Aquaman since it was produced by Wan and Safran.
Wan and Momoa planned to take a “breather” first, but he announced a few days later that active production on an Aquaman sequel had started, with co-writer and longtime Wan collaborator David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick coming on to write the script.

Amber Heard denied rumors in November that she will not reprise her role as Mera from the last film, after allegations of domestic abuse leveled against her by her ex-husband Johnny Depp.
After Warner Bros. decided to remove Depp from Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2024) after abuse allegations published by The Sun were determined to be “essentially true,” a petition to have Heard removed from the series garnered more than 1.5 million signatures that month.
According to Safran, Heard’s return was “ideal” for the film, and they never considered doing it without her. He went on to explain that they would not react to “pure fan pressure” from the petition or other social media discussions.
