The Fantastic Beasts franchise won’t be complete without Johnny Depp. The actor, who played the role of Grindelwald in the previous two instalments, was fired after reportedly refusing to sign a legal document that detailed his contract’s final pay-out. This reportedly led the studio to release a statement saying that “Johnny Depp has been terminated as a result of allegations of misconduct”.
Johnny Depp was dismissed from the highly-anticipated Fantastic Beasts 3 for possible immigration violations. Depp’s representatives have not confirmed any details about the matter, but his firing has created a cloud of uncertainty for the film’s production.
For some, this was a disappointing turn of events. For others, it was a fitting end to an era. Whatever your take on the matter, one thing is clear: Johnny Depp is no longer part of Fantastic Beasts. After Depp was spotted drinking with his wife Amber Heard in Australia, director David Yates got in touch with the actor, requesting that he perform a public service by stepping down from the role that he has played for the last decade.
Unhappy with Warner Brothers’ decision to dismiss Johnny Depp, a Fantastic Beasts 3 production worker admits that morale was poor.
“It’s politics,” a Fantastic Beasts 3 production member said of Warner Brothers’ decision to dismiss renowned Hollywood veteran Johnny Depp, who was set to portray Grindelwald in the next film.
This is why people despise Chrissy Teigen.
The crew member said, “When we heard Johnny Depp would not be coming to the shoot, the mood shifted drastically.” “I know it sounds dramatic, but shooting without him on the first day felt like a funeral. I believe it felt that way because we [the actors and crew] were told not to speak about it.”
According to an insider, the whole cast and crew were had to sign a Non-Disclose Agreement, which said that they would not discuss Johnny Depp with the media or at any press events.
In an Entertainment Tonight interview, Jude Law was obliged to hold his tongue when questioned about Johnny’s alleged “resignation,” but he said that they were compelled to “go through with it.”
“The studio and the business are the ones that make the major choices in a brand like this. Jude remarked of Depp’s departure from the series, “And you have to go along with them because we’re simply a member of the team.” Jude Law, on the other hand, was heartbroken by the news, according to a staff member.
“The quiet was deafening,” the staff member remembers of the whole team when Johnny Depp was forced to resign out. Nobody had anything to say, owing to the fact that we weren’t permitted to discuss Depp’s departure. I’d equate it to losing a favorite teacher, but the reality is that Johnny was like family to a lot of us.”
“To myself and the rest of the team, Johnny Depp was nothing but wonderful. It didn’t matter that I was just a contractor or that I wasn’t renowned; he never treated me like garbage or spoke down to me, which is something that occurs all too often in this business. Because I think Johnny Depp is a really modest human being, he interacts with everyone equally.”
Morale is poor, and energy levels are low.
“Morale is down, and the vibe isn’t the same,” the Fantastic Beasts 3 staff member said. This is something I believe will be reflected in the final edit. It’s just a little different. The saddest part is that we never had an opportunity to say goodbye or, as heartbreaking as it may seem, express our grief.”

We contacted the crew member and asked if they knew what the team’s overall opinion on the Amber v Heard issue was, and if they had any more information on the matter.
“It’s political, and everyone knows it,” they replied. Not in the traditional sense of left vs right; Depp, as far as I know, is a liberal, but Amber Heard has some strong political allies. People just don’t speak about the [DV] things; instead, they talk about how Amber is a liar, so there’s that.”
We also asked whether they had previously worked with Amber Heard, to which they responded, “Me personally?” No. I’ve been in the business for over a decade and have never had the pleasure of working with her. But I do have a few pals who have worked with her in some capacity. “You never work with her — you only work for her,” as one of my pals put it.
“She [Amber Heard] refused to make eye contact with any of the crew on one of her previous films, and she was very rude,” the Fantastic Beasts 3 crew member concluded.
In Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 3, Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen will take over for Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald, with a July 2024 release date set. We’ll have to wait and see how severely the film’s morale was impacted.
After composer John Williams received an award for his work on the Harry Potter movies, he was asked by the Hollywood Reporter what he thinks of J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts series. His comments, which were later reported by the New York Times, summed up the general sense that many felt about the up-and-coming series: “I was not interested in the world of wizardry. I was interested in making magical things—music, sound effects, beautiful elements to build tension. I would like to think I left the world of the supernatural to the people who like that kind of thing. I would like to think that if I had grown up in the world of Fantastic Beasts, I would have liked to be a tree or a person. Read more about new grindelwald actor and let us know what you think.
