What began as a modestly ambitious space opera project has grown into one of the most profitable and popular franchises in history. Star Wars has spawned several generations of fans and is still regarded as one of the greatest fictional worlds ever created despite its long existence.
We at Fiction Horizon have chosen to compile a list of the 55 greatest Star Wars characters as they have appeared throughout the Expanded Universe in order to commemorate that heritage (the pre- and post-Disney one). These characters will be ranked from 55th to first, based on their popularity and overall quality in terms of character development. Enjoy!

Admiral Ackbar (number 55)
The Return of the Jedi marks the start of a new era for the Star Wars franchise. Tim Rose is the actor that plays the role of Tim Rose.
Ackbar, a Mon Calamari amphibious species, was the Rebel Alliance’s top military leader, leading significant combat operations against the wicked Galactic Empire. He’s famous for his slogan, “It’s a trap!”
Greedo (n.d.) (n.d.) (n.
A New Hope Makes Its Debut Paul Blake, Maria De Aragon, and Larry Ward star in this film.
Greedo is a Rhodian bounty hunter in Jabba the Hutt’s service; despite the fact that no one believes him, he considers himself to be an expert and infallible big shot. At A New Hope, he tries to shoot Han Solo in Mos Eisley’s cantina but is slain by the smuggler.
Snoke, the Supreme Leader, is number 53.
The Force Awakens is the first film in the Star Wars franchise. Andy Serkis (actor)
Palpatine created him soon after the Battle of Endor, and he served as the First Order’s supreme commander until his death. Kylo Ren, his apprentice, assassinates him and reclaims his title. The fact that he is a clone produced by Sith Emperor Palpatine is subsequently revealed.
Darth Nihilus, number 52
The Sith Lords debuted in Knights of the Old Republic II. None of the players took part in the game.
Darth Nihilus was a human Sith Lord who was instrumental in the destruction of the Jedi Order in 3951 BBY. After killing Galen’s father on Kashyyyk, Vader took the little child with him and began training him in the Dark Side of the Force, brutally and cruelly.
50. Revan
The Knights of the Old Republic made their debut in the game Knights of the Old Republic. Rino Romano is the actor that plays Rino Romano.
During the Galactic Republic, Revan was a Jedi. He was a major figure in the Mandalorian Wars, which he was able to resolve in favor of the Republic, against the Order’s wishes, thanks to the revanchist organization he created. He came dangerously near to succumbing to the Dark Side’s temptations after defeating the Mandalorians and destroying Malachor V.
49. The Customer
The Mandalorian makes his debut. Werner Herzog is the actor who plays Werner Herzog.
The Client is a mystery Imperial Remnant agent with no identity. In the name of his boss, Moff Gideon, he employs the Mandalorian and a slew of other bounty hunters to find the Child. Dr. Pershing, the Client’s colleague, is ordered to “extract the required material” from him by the Client, who never explains why he wants the Child at any costs.
The Mandalorian first intends to give the Child to the Client, but changes his mind and rescues him. The Mandalorian and the Child are found by the Client, but the Mandalorian returns to him later, and the Client is shot and murdered by stormtroopers on Gideon’s instructions.
Captain Rex (48).
The Clone Wars marked the start of the franchise. Dee Bradley Baker is the actor that plays Dee Bradley Baker.
He is a Clone trooper captain in charge of the 501st Legion of the Republic Army, cloned from Jango Fett, who served Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano during the Clone Wars.
Along with Wolffe and Gregor, he is likely the only clone not to have executed Order 66 after removing the chip that would have prompted him to kill the Jedi when the Galactic Empire was founded. Later, he joins a rebel organization.
Paz Vizsla, 47.
The Mandalorian makes his debut. Tait Fletcher and Jon Favreau star in the film.
Paz Vizsla is one of the Mandalorian tribe’s warriors on Nevarro. He is a big infantry combatant, strong and physically intimidating. He first appears in “Chapter 3: The Sin,” when he debates with the Mandalorian about cooperating with the Empire, but then comes to his rescue when the Mandalorian is assaulted.
Mara Jade is 46 years old.
Heir to the Empire makes his debut. None of the players took part in the game.
Mara Jade was a formidable opponent. She had previously served as a Hand of the Emperor, a smuggler, and a Jedi Master. As Palpatine’s servant, Mara carried out the Emperor’s orders, murdering as many people as was necessary.
Mara got one last command after Palpatine’s death, to murder Luke Skywalker, but instead of killing him, she had to team up with him to fight the insane clone of Jedi Master Joruus C’baoth. Jade eventually joined up with Talon Karrde and became one of his most effective operatives. Mara and Luke fell in love after a time of separation and married in 19 ABY.
45. Rey
The Force Awakens is the first film in the Star Wars franchise. Daisy Ridley is the actress that plays Daisy Ridley.
Rey is introduced as a scavenger who was abandoned as a kid on the planet Jakku. She eventually gets engaged in the First Order-Resistance war. Rey, who is powerful with the Force, learns to be a Jedi under Luke Skywalker and General Leia, and confronts foes including Kylo Ren, Supreme Leader Snoke, and Emperor Palpatine.
Darth Bane, number 44
Darth Bane: Path of Destruction is the first film in the Star Wars franchise. None of the players took part in the game.
Darth Bane is a wicked Sith lord who lived a thousand years before the Prequel Trilogy’s events. Due to infighting among the Sith and the tyranny of the Jedi, Darth Bane established the “rule of two,” which stated that there would only be two Sith at any one time, a master and an apprentice.
The Jedi thought they had finally defeated the Sith with his death, but his student covertly continued his work, launching a long-term plot to destroy the Republic and the Jedi.
43. Qi’ra
Solo: A Star Wars Story is the first film to be released. Emilia Clarke is the actress who plays Emilia Clarke.
She is Han Solo’s childhood closest friend and the planet Corellia’s first love as a Teräs Käsi practitioner. Before she was kidnapped and fled the planet, the pair lived on the streets. Darth Plagueis, number 42
Darth Plagueis makes his Star Wars debut. None of the players took part in the game.
Darth Plagueis is a wicked Sith lord and the master of Darth Sidious, who was assassinated while sleeping by his student. Palpatine mentions him in Revenge of the Sith in an effort to entice Anakin Skywalker to the dark side, describing him as a Sith so strong that he could directly control midi-chlorins and escape death. Star Wars: Darth Plagueis is an Expanded Universe book that tells the tale of Darth Plagueis and his connection with Darth Sidious.
Moff Gideon, 41.
The Mandalorian makes his debut. Giancarlo Esposito is the actor that plays Giancarlo Esposito.
Gideon is a former member of the defunct Galactic Empire’s Security Bureau who is determined to catch Grogu, a 50-year-old extraterrestrial of the same race as Yoda who is only known as “The Child” until the fifth episode of the second season. On numerous instances, he fights with Mando.
Ezra Bridger (#40)
Star Wars Rebels makes its debut. Taylor Gray is the actor that plays the character.
Ezra Bridger was an orphaned 14-year-old kid from the planet Lothal. When they first met, Jedi Kanan Jarrus, who had survived Order 66, recognized straight once that he was extremely Force-sensitive. Ezra joined Kanan’s crew and was designated as his padawan. The Empire soon recognized him as a strong member of a rebel cell and recruited a special inquisitor to hunt him and his master down.
Asajj Ventress, 39.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars is the first film in the Star Wars franchise. Grey DeLisle and Nika Futterman star in the film.
Asajj appears in all versions of his tale as Count Dooku’s agent during the clone wars, where he fights with two curved-hilted lightsabers and proves to be a formidable opponent for Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Lando Calrissian (38), Lando Calrissian (38), Lando Calris
The Empire Strikes Back is the first film in the Empire Strikes Back franchise. Billy Dee Williams and Donald Glover star in the film.
He became the administrator of Cloud City, a mining colony on the planet Bespin that harvests and sells gas from Tibana. Darth Vader blackmails him into assisting in the capture of Han Solo and Princess Leia in return for the Empire’s pledge not to go about its more or less lawful business. He helps Leia escape and joins the Rebel Alliance after realizing how badly he has been misled by Vader.
Cal Kestis (#37)
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order makes its debut. Cameron Monaghan is the actor that plays Cameron Monaghan.
Cal Kestis, the protagonist of the aforementioned video game, is a former Jedi Jaro Tapal Padawan who escaped Emperor Palpatine’s Order 66. He works for the Scrap Guild while exiled on the planet Bracca, where he meets Prauf. Later, he joins a small group of resistance fighters in their battle against the Empire, where he meets Saw Gerrera.
36. Finn
The Force Awakens is the first film in the Star Wars franchise. John Boyega portrays the character.
He is first introduced as a Stormtrooper soldier in the First Order’s service (being known by the code name FN-2187). But, after seeing his commanders’ heinous actions and witnessing the murder of a squadmate, he joins “The Resistance” later in the film, when he meets rebel pilot Poe Dameron, who baptizes him as Finn using the letters of his secret name.
Gerrera, number 35
The Clone Wars marked the start of the franchise. Forest Whitaker (actor)
During the clone wars, Saw Gerrera is a member of the Onderon rebels, who battles to reclaim the planet from the separatists. He seems to be a combat veteran who went on to head a tiny group of rebels known as the Partisans, but he was so far to the right that he was shunned by the rest of the resistance.
He is Jyn Erso’s mentor, having rescued her as a youngster after her father Galen was kidnapped by the Empire and her mother was murdered. He confesses to Jyn that Galen has created a weakness in the Death Star’s primary reactor, and is murdered in the city’s subsequent destruction by the orbiting station.
Cassian Andor, 34.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story makes its debut. Diego Luna is the actor that plays Diego Luna.
Cassian Andor is a Rebel Alliance intelligence officer. He takes part in the operation to recover the Death Star blueprints from the imperial facility in Scarif in Rogue One. Andor and his comrades are murdered in the planet’s annihilation by the orbiting station after sending the blueprints to the rebel troops in space.
33. K-2SO
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story makes its debut. Alan Tudyk is the actor that plays Alan Tudyk.
Cassian Andor’s co-pilot and companion K-2SO is an Imperial droid seized and reprogrammed by the Rebel Alliance. On espionage operations, his looks enables him to penetrate enemy ranks invisibly. He has a habit of expressing himself in a cheeky, insensitive, and direct way, and he often uses dark and caustic humor.
K-2SO is destroyed to defend Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor from stormtroopers during the operation to retrieve the Death Star data on Scarif in Rogue One.
Maz Kanata is number 32 on the list.
The Force Awakens is the first film in the Star Wars franchise. Lupita Nyong’o (Lupita Nyong’o)
She is a little humanoid with orange skin and a round face that is wrinkled. Maz, who is almost 1,000 years old, is a seasoned pirate and smuggler. On the planet Takodana, she owns and runs a bar located in a palace.
31. BB-8
A Force Awakens is the first episode of the series. Bill Hader and Ben Schwartz star in the film.
BB-8 is a robot from the Star Wars universe. It features a half-spherical head that rests on top of a bigger sphere on which it rolls. BB-8 is a white robot with gray and orange body components and a black eyepiece. He’s the robot that rides shotgun on Poe Dameron’s X-wing.
Plo Koon (number 30)
The Phantom Menace is the first film in the franchise. Alan Ruscoe and Matt Sloan star in the film.
Plo Koon was a Jedi Master of Kel Dor ancestry who served on the Galactic Republic’s High Council during its last years. During the Clone Wars, a pangalactic war between the Republic and its rebel state, the Confederacy of Independent Systems, he was a renowned Jedi commander. During the implementation of Order 66, he was slain.
Tarkin, Grand Moff
Star Wars made its debut in 1977. Peter Cushing (actor)
Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin was the most ruthless of the Galactic Empire’s governors. He began his career in the Galactic Republic’s service during the Clone Wars, but when the Empire began to crumble, he aligned himself with Palpatine.
The new emperor conferred upon him a title and authority that no other creature could comprehend. When he failed to escape the first Death Star, he perished as a result of his own stubbornness. In his “moment of victory,” he burst together with the space station.
The Mandalorian / Din Djarin / The Mandalorian / The Mandalorian / The Mandalorian
The Mandalorian makes his debut. Pedro Pascal is the actor that plays the role of Pedro Pascal.
The Mandalorian, also known as Mando, is a member of the Bounty Hunters Guild and one of the last of his kind. His actual name is Din Djarin. He is a “foundling,” an orphan who was saved by the Mandalorians at an early age. He is Grogu’s adoptive father, who he had to give up to the Client at first but eventually gets attracted to him and rescues him.
27. C-3PO
A New Hope Makes Its Debut Anthony Daniels is the actor that plays the role of Anthony Daniels.
He is an anthropomorphic protocol droid from the planet Tatooine, where he was constructed from discarded parts by Anakin Skywalker when he was young. He can communicate in almost six million different ways, which will be very helpful to his many masters.
C-3PO is initially without cover when Anakin and Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn depart Tatooine; subsequently, he is given a gray cover, which is eventually replaced with a gold cover.
Jar Jar Binks (#26)
The Phantom Menace is the first film in the franchise. Ahmed Best is the actor that plays the role of Ahmed Best.
He talks with a peculiar and distinctive accent, as do all Gungans. He joins the Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, who had been dispatched to Naboo to resolve a conflict, after being exiled from his own people owing to his carelessness.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story makes its debut. Felicity Jones is the leading lady in this film.
Jyn Erso was born at the start of the Clone Wars and spent her early years with her parents, Galen and Lyra Erso. Captain Cassian Andor, the Alliance’s commander, greeted Jyn. Cassian and Jyn set off for Jedha in the hopes of finding Saw, who knows where Galen, Jyn’s father, is.
They headed out for Jedha with K-2SO, an Imperial surveillance droid. When they arrive, Jyn chastises Saw for his treatment of her, while Cassian inquires about Galen’s whereabouts from Bodhi Rook, a defected Imperial fighter. Jyn is killed on Scarif after being struck by a shock wave caused by a Death Star beam that destroys an imperial base on the planet.
Ki-Adi-Mundi (Ki-Adi-Mundi) (Ki-Adi-
The Phantom Menace is the first film in the franchise. Silas Carson is the actor that plays the role of Silas Carson.
In the Prequel Trilogy and The Clone Wars, Ki-Adi-Mundi was a Cerean Jedi who served on the Jedi Council. After Order 66 is issued, he takes part in the clone warfare and is murdered by his clone soldiers on Mygeeto.
Jabba the Hutt (number 23)
A New Hope Makes Its Debut Larry Ward is the actor that plays the role of Larry Ward.
Jabba’s role in the series is mainly antagonistic: he is a Hutt gangster who manages his criminal empire with a huge following of criminals, bounty hunters, smugglers, killers, and bodyguards.
Many performers, slaves, droids, and exotic animals are kept at his disposal at his castle on the desert world of Tatooine. Jabba the Hutt has a dark sense of humour, a ferocious laugh, an insatiable hunger, and a taste for gambling, enslavement, and torture.
Chewbacca is number 22.
A New Hope Makes Its Debut Peter Mayhew and Joonas Suotamo star in the film.
Chewbacca, a famous Wookiee warrior and co-pilot of the Millennium Falcon with Han Solo, a legendary smuggler, is one of the core of rebels who have returned freedom to the galaxy. Chewbacca has a large heart and is known for his crossbow accuracy, but he also has a big heart and displays unshakable devotion to his pals.
Jango Fett is number twenty-one.
Attack of the Clones is the first film in the Attack of the Clones franchise. Temuera Morrison is the actress who plays Temuera Morrison.
Boba Fett, Han Solo’s adversary bounty hunter who debuted in the Original Trilogy, is his son. Considered the greatest bounty hunter in the galaxy, he was selected by the enigmatic Darth Tyranus to serve as the genetic model for the development of a Galactic Republic clone army during the Republic’s last years.
Jango is also the “father” of Boba Fett, a clone who would seek vengeance after seeing Jango’s murder at the hands of the Jedi Mace Windu.
Count Dooku (number 20)
Attack of the Clones is the first film in the Attack of the Clones franchise. Christopher Lee is the actor that plays the role of Christopher Lee.
He was Yoda’s Padawan pupil and is widely regarded as one of the finest Jedi of all time. He quits the Order after the death of his former student, Qui-Gon Jinn, and claims his noble title of Count of Serenno.
Darth Sidious seduces the former Jedi Master into the dark side of the Force, and he becomes his second apprentice, assuming the name Darth Tyranus. He was the catalyst for the Clone Wars as the commander and founder of the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
19. Sadness in general
Star Wars: The Clone Wars is the first film in the Star Wars franchise. Matthew Wood is the actor that plays the role of Matthew Wood.
Grievous, commonly known as General Grievous, is a strong lightsaber-wielding general of the Droid Army whose actual name is Qymaen Jai Sheelal. He is one of the main villains of the Prequel Trilogy.
He is the supreme commander of the Droid Army of the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars, and is taught in all kinds of lightsaber fighting by Count Dooku in order to guarantee the Jedi’s annihilation.
Boba Fett is 18 years old.
Jeremy Bulloch and Temuera Morrison star in the Star Wars Holiday Special.
Jango Fett’s clone, Boba Fett, was raised as his son amid the thousands of other clones created in his likeness on the planet Kamino and who would fight in the Clone Wars that follow. Boba is a powerful bounty hunter as an adult, renowned for his mastery at stalking his victims.
He has often worked for the criminal Jabba the Hutt, who orders him to kidnap Han Solo, which he is able to accomplish due to his connection with Darth Vader on the planet Bespin during Episode V. In Episode VI, he is eaten by a Sarlacc and vanishes on Tatooine. In The Mandalorian, Boba Fett returns.
17. Kylo Ren / Ben Solo

Ben Solo, the sole child of Han Solo and Leia Organa from the Original Trilogy, selected the name Kylo Ren. Despite having been educated as a Jedi by his uncle Luke Skywalker, he has been tempted by the dark side of the Force owing to Supreme Leader Snoke’s influence, and wants to be as strong as his grandpa, Sith Lord Darth Vader.
Ren is also the leader of the Knights of Ren and a commander and subsequently Supreme Leader of the First Order, which was formed from the ashes of the Galactic Empire.
Poe Dameron is 16 years old.
The Force Awakens is the first film in the Star Wars franchise. Oscar Isaac plays the lead role.
Poe Dameron is the Resistance’s finest pilot, one of Princess Leia’s most trusted soldiers, and one of the Sequel Trilogy’s main characters. He is rash and rash, and he often puts himself in hazardous situations.

Padmé is one of the most significant characters in the Prequel Trilogy, since she is the wife of Anakin Skywalker, the main character of the whole story, and the mother of Luke Skywalker and Leila Organa.
She is the daughter of the nobility of Naboo Ruwee Naberrie and Jobal Thule, and she has an elder sister, Sola Naberrie, as well as Ryoo and Pooja Janren, her children. She was the Queen of Naboo and a Senator for the planet throughout her lifetime.
Mace Windu (#14)

A New Hope Makes Its Debut Kenny Baker is the actor that plays the role of Kenny Baker.
He’s a robot that specializes in interacting with various systems, as well as operating equipment like elevators and doing repairs. He is a native of the planet Naboo and has a keen sense of humour.
He is adept at taking initiative and using sometimes unconventional ways to assist his buddies. He is the constant friend of C-3PO, the protocol droid, and therefore his counterpart. Han Solo and his co-pilot Chewbacca join the Rebel Alliance to fight the Galactic Empire in the film Star Wars. Throughout the Star Wars saga, he rises to become one of the Alliance’s and succeeding galactic governments’ most powerful leaders.
He subsequently rejoins the protagonists in their battle against the First Order, only to be murdered by his own son, Kylo Ren.
Grogu (nine) (Baby Yoda)
The Mandalorian makes his debut. David Acord is the actor that plays the role of David Acord (voice)
Grogu is a fictional character that appears in The Mandalorian. He is also known as “The Child,” “The Asset,” and “Baby Yoda.” He is a Force-sensitive kid who is related to Jedi Grandmaster Yoda’s species.
His background is unknown, save that he managed to escape Order 66 and that he is very strong, which is why he is being pursued by the Empire’s remnants. He was taken in by Luke Skywalker to be educated as a Jedi at the conclusion of the second season.
Ahsoka Tano (Ahsoka Tano) (Ahsoka
Star Wars: The Clone Wars is the first film in the Star Wars franchise. Lauren Mary Kim and Rosario Dawson star in the film.
Master Yoda assigned the young Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano of the Togruta species to Anakin Skywalker. The two will have to go on a hunt for Jabba the Hutt’s kid as their first assignment.
She will assist Anakin and Obi-Wan Kenobi on numerous missions throughout the Clone Wars, until she is forced to quit the Jedi Order due to a plot. Many years later, she returns as an adult, first under the alias “Fulcrum,” organizing the many cells from which the Rebel Alliance would emerge, and eventually as a member of the Ghost, the group of heroes.
Later in The Mandalorian, she appears as a renegade Jedi, assisting Din Djarin and Grogu on their quest.
Qui-Gon Jinn is number seven.

He will never be able to become his Master since he will be murdered by the Sith Darth Maul, who is determined to train him despite the Council’s wishes. Despite his demise, he had a significant impact on the Jedi’s future.

Mitth’raw’nuruodo is the full name of Grand Admiral Thrawn, a figure from the Star Wars sci-fi world. Timothy Zahn created the character in the 1990s as the primary adversary for his novel Heir to the Empire (the first installment of the so-called Thrawn Trilogy of books), and he later featured in other works in the Expanded Universe.
The character was resurrected from the ground up in the animated series Star Wars Rebels as the primary adversary in the third and fourth seasons, after Walt Disney’s purchase of the franchise.
5. Darth Sidious / Palpatine

Palpatine was first a charming senator from Naboo, but he was really Darth Sidious, the Sith Lord. He becomes Supreme Chancellor of the Republic in a short period of time via deceit and trickery.
He arrives to carry out the destruction of the Jedi order after exposing himself and declares himself Emperor of the Galactic Empire. He succeeds to bind to his will the strong Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, who would serve with him in the Empire under the name Darth Vader, after having apprentices in Darth Maul and Count Dooku.
Palpatine’s rule comes to an end when Vader murders him in order to rescue his son, Luke Skywalker. Palpatine has managed to live due to the Dark Side of the Force thirty years later, and he proclaims his return with an enormous fleet of Star Destroyers.
He will eventually be fully revived, but this time by the Jedi Rey, his niece and Luke’s apprentice, he will be destroyed for good.
Luke Skywalker (#4)
A New Hope Makes Its Debut Mark Hamill is the actor that plays the character.
Luke Skywalker is the twin brother of Princess Leia and the son of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala. He is trained to be a Jedi Knight by Obi-Wan Kenobi in A New Hope, and later fights with the Rebel Alliance against the Empire in the Galactic Civil War, destroying the Death Star with the assistance of Han Solo.
In Return of the Jedi, he eventually meets his father Darth Vader, prompting him to repent, rebel, and murder the Emperor, bringing the Galactic Empire to its final demise.
3. Ben Kenobi / Obi-Wan Kenobi
A New Hope Makes Its Debut Ewan McGregor and Alec Guinness star in the film.
Initially Qui-Gon Jinn’s Padawan, he fought with his Master in the Battle of Naboo against the Trade Federation’s droid army. Qui-Gon is elevated to Jedi Knight after his death at the hands of the Sith Darth Maul, and the young Anakin Skywalker is assigned to him as a pupil.
During the Clone Wars, the two, who have become close friends, become Republic generals and legends. Anakin is exiled to Tatooine after his conversion to the Dark Side and the creation of the Empire, and eventually becomes Luke Skywalker’s mentor.
